SYNOPSIS
MANILA PRIDE FEST: The 1st International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Film Festival 2007- Press Release_1
With the onset of indie films penetrating our entertainment market, the Philippines is yet to experience a different genre of film making. Come October 24-30 of this year, the Philippines will witness the first ever Manila Pride Fest: The First International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Film Festival 2007 slated at Robinson’s Movie World Indie Sine.
Organized by Manila Pride Fest, a non-stock and non profit LGBT film organization headed by Mr. Posh Subillaga Tabor, Manila Pride International Film Festival will showcase a total of 45 film entries around the world having a theme about LGBT. Mr. Tabor stated that one of his goals is to make the Philippines the premier LGBT film organization in the entire Asian region. He also wants to continue the advocacy that he had started when he headed the Pink Film Festival last year. With Manila Pride Fest, he aims for our country to have a festival that could rival other festivals abroad, just like what Hong Kong and New York has.
More than 200 entries were submitted by creative film makers around the world including those from USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Taiwan, France, Norway, Netherlands, UK, Portugal, Spain, Bosnia, The Bahamas, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, Switzerland and even Iran.
All entries were meticulously screened by international film makers to come up with 45 final entries to be shown during the festival. These entries are comprised of both short and full length features.
The festival’s gala night on October 24, 2007 will showcase a mini fashion show where gorgeous hunks would parade the runway in their skimpy underwear for all gay men to feast their eyes on. Cocktails will be served before the show followed by the Philippine showing premier of Curiosity of Chance, a film by HUMANITAS Awarded and Emmy Award Nominated director Russell P. Marleau which stars Tad Hilgenbrinck (American Pie Presents: Band Camp) as Chance, a 16-year old boy who has accepted his sexuality but has trouble with just being himself and Brett Chuckerman (Eating Out 2) as his crush, Levi.
Manila Pride Fest will have specific days allotted for different countries to showcase their artistry in film making. The festival will have around five (5) film features each day. On October 25, USA will dominate the movie screen as several entries from American film makers will grace the festival. October 26 will have Canadian titillating films lording over. October 27 will have film makers from Down Under showcase what they’ve got as Australia features their most controversial entries to date. Not to be outdone are the Europeans who will have their day on October 28, and come October 29 all entries from other countries will be shown dubbed as Untold Stories: All Mixed Up.
October 30 is allotted for benefit screenings intended for NGO’s with entries covering AIDS and other relevant issues concerning our society today. The closing ceremony will showcase another Asian premier for the movie, GO WEST an extraordinary tale of a gay muslim couple living in Saravejo. Their lives, intimate and public, are shaken up by the agression in Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose devastating consequences unfold in inter-ethnic hatred.
Manila Pride Fest is honored to be the official festival partner of Iris Prize Award for short film, and one of their only 10 film festival partners in the whole world.
